FAO: Iran’s cereal output surges 17.3 percent in ongoing crop year

(MENAFN) Cereal output in Iran is forecasted to surge 17.3 percent in the present crop year in comparison with the prior year, as shown by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO)’s most recent Crop Prospects and Food Situation report issued on the 2nd of December.

According to the stated report, the Islamic Republic manufactured 20.8 million tons of cereals throughout the present year, 3.59 million tons higher than the number for the last year.

Based on FAO, Near East nations’ overall cereal output in last year is forecasted at 70.6 million tons, nearly 0.5 million tons under the last five-year average, but around 12 percent higher the drought-impacted production last year.

“The partial production recovery [of the mentioned region] at the aggregate level is mostly accounted for by increases in Turkey and the Islamic Republic of Iran,” the report mentioned.

“In the Islamic Republic of Iran, cereal production recovered and is estimated at 20.8 million tons, an increase of 17.3 percent compared to 2021, but still slightly below the average,” the FAO report added.
