    Iran, Syria Sign 15 Cooperation Documents to Enhance Economic, Trade Relations

    (MENAFN) Iran and Syria have signed 15 cooperation documents during a visit by a high-ranking Iranian delegation led by President Ebrahim Raisi to the Arab country. The agreements include a comprehensive roadmap for strategic and long-term cooperation between the two nations, along with 14 other agreements and memorandums of understanding (MOUs) on collaboration in various areas.

    Among the signed documents are three MOUs on boosting trade and economic cooperation between the two countries, a memorandum to expand cooperation in the field of information and communications technology (ICT), two MOUs on establishing joint banking and insurance, and an agreement to send 50,000 Iranian pilgrims to Damascus. These documents mark a significant milestone in the strengthening of bilateral relations between the two nations.

    President Raisi's two-day visit to Syria, in response to an official invitation by Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, aimed to expand and strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries. The Iranian delegation included four ministers, the governor of the Central Bank of Iran (CBI), Raisi's chief of staff, and his chief political advisor.

    Upon his return to Tehran, President Raisi described the trip as a turning point in the expansion of economic, trade, political, and security relations between Iran and Syria. He emphasized that the two nations have good potential and many areas of common interest for cooperation to enhance the level of economic and trade relations.

    The signed documents represent a significant step towards strengthening economic and trade relations between Iran and Syria, which have faced significant challenges due to international sanctions and geopolitical tensions. The MOUs on boosting trade and economic cooperation, as well as the agreements on establishing joint banking and insurance, are expected to facilitate the flow of goods and services between the two nations, providing a much-needed boost to their economies.

    The memorandum of understanding to expand cooperation in the field of information and communications technology (ICT) is also expected to have a positive impact on the technological development of both nations. The agreement to send 50,000 Iranian pilgrims to Damascus demonstrates the commitment of the two nations to promoting cultural and religious ties.
