    Jordan reports 54% drop in foreign aid last year

    (MENAFN) The Jordanian Ministry of Finance showed that foreign aid to the kingdom dropped 54 percent in 2009 and stood at $470.9 million, compared to $1 billion in 2008, Petra news agency reported. The ministry pointed out that total incoming foreign aid decreased by 11.1 percent last year, coming to $6.393 billion in comparison to $7.194 billion in 2008. Jordan's budget had a financial deficit of $2.5 billion excluding foreign aid, and $2 billion after factoring in the aid, the ministry added. The kingdom's debts - both internal and external - had increased by 13 percent by the end of 2009, reaching $13.645 billion, compared with $12 billion at the end of 2008.
