    Lebanon expects $4.4b in tourism revenue this year

    (MENAFN) An economic report issued in Beirut showed that the travel and tourism in Lebanon will directly contribute $4.4 billion to the country's economy in 2010, representing 13.3 percent of gross domestic product (GDP), Reuters reported. Citing data from The World Travel & Tourism Council, the report said that the direct and indirect impact of tourism on the country's overall economy is even greater. The Council forecasts that tourism will general $12.4 billion or 37.6 percent of overall economic activity in Lebanon in 2010. Tourism Minister Fadi Abboud had requested an increase of $5 million to the ministry's budget that would be earmarked to promote Lebanon abroad, the report added. He expected tourism activity to grow between 10-20 percent this year.
