    Qatar, Brazil to boost economic ties

    (MENAFN) Qatar and Brazil signed several agreements in Doha seeking to strengthen bilateral relations following a session of talks chaired by HH the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani and Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, The Peninsula reported. The Qatari-Brazilian relations received a further boost in the wake of the Brasilia Declaration, Qatari PM Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim said, explaining that the volume of trade exchange between the two countries increased from $119 million in 2005 to $220 million in 2009, an 85 percent increase. The Prime Minister praised the role played by Brazil in its capacity as the most powerful economy in South America and the 10th biggest global economy with huge human, industrial and agricultural resources as well as competitive capacities that will qualify it to achieve further development. Meanwhile, President Lula da Silva hailed the Qatari-Brazilian economic and trading relations noting that his current visit came in response to the visit the Emir paid to Brazil last January.
