Iraq to expand Baghdad International Airport

(MENAFN) Iraq plans to expand plans Baghdad International Airport by adding three new terminals, each capable of handling 2.5 million passengers per year, Reuters reported. Iraqi Civil Aviation Authority (ICAA) Director General, Adnin Blebil, said that the government plans to double the airport's capacity to 15 million passengers per year, up from the current capacity of seven million passengers a year. He added that the government hopes to generate interest from foreign investors in the plans, but declined to say how much investment the expansion would need. Blebil said that the ICAA was also considering plans to boost capacity at the airport in the southern oil hub of Basra, and to set up a new international airport in the north near Mosul.
