    Areva secures $12.5m contracts with GCCIA

    (MENAFN) Areva announced that it has secured $12.5 million contracts with the GCC Interconnection Authority (GCCIA), for transmission utility end-users in the Gulf countries, TradeArabia reported. Areva, which is a leader in energy transmission and distribution sector, said that both the projects are being implemented through its Transmission and Distribution unit in the Middle East. The first contract involves a three-year extendable pact for preventive maintenance and emergency services for GCCIAÂ's high voltage direct current (HVDC) substation in Al Fadhili, eastern Saudi Arabia, to preserve and protect the cooling system, HVDC poles, rectifier transformers, outdoor switchyard equipment and all auxiliary systems. While, the second contract is a two-year extendable maintenance agreement for automation systems covering GCCIAÂ's AC & DC protection devices system, substation control monitoring system, telecom infrastructure and the Scada energy management system across the entire GCCIA grid, which includes seven 400 kV Substations and one Interconnection Control Center. It is worth noting that the GCCIA is a joint stock company that supports the regional electricity market by promoting reliable, competitive and sustainable transmission services. The company co-ordinates with local transmission utilities in each state to connect regional power networks and enhance generation efficiency.
