ADAC: Passenger traffic up 10% in April

(MENAFN) Abu Dhabi Airports Company (ADAC) said that passenger traffic at Abu Dhabi International Airport grew 10 percent in April, despite of cancellations of flights due to the volcanic ash eruption in Iceland, which grounded several flights to and from Europe during the month. ADAC's Senior Vice President of Airport Operations, Ahmed Al Haddabi, pointed out that despite of the extraordinary circumstances caused by the volcanic ash cloud that spread from Iceland across Europe during several days in April. This has caused grounding too many flights to and from the continent. However, Abu Dhabi International Airport continued to record double-digit growth, which is a great result, Al Haddabi said, adding that ADAC will remain focused on enhancing the facilities and services it offers to passengers, and to attracting new airlines to the airport hub. ADAC said that London, Doha, Bangkok, Manila and Jeddah were the top five city destinations; whilst the USA was the fastest growing country destination for the month, with a 160 percent growth in passenger traffic over the same period in 2009. The company attributed this growth to the launch of EtihadÂ's Chicago route and its growing connectivity to the American market through its code share agreement with American Airlines.
