UAE inks nuclear safety deal with South Korea

(MENAFN) South Korea and the UAE have signed a nuclear regulatory pact to set safety guidelines for the building of commercial reactors in the Middle East, Seoul's Yonhap News Agency reported. The Korean Ministry for Education, Science and Technology said the nuclear safety arrangement is a follow-up to the $18.6 billion agreement reached late last year to build four 1,400 megawatt reactors by 2020, according to the report. Under the arrangement, Seoul will also help Abu Dhabi set up a nuclear safety control infrastructure, it said, adding that such an arrangement is in line with requirements set by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
