    Abu Dhabi awards Siemens $184m contract

    (MENAFN) Siemens Energy said that it has secured a $184 million order from the Abu Dhabi Transmission & Dispatch Company (Transco), the emirateÂ's national electricity grid operator, to supply of transformer substations and switchgear, TradeArabia reported. The contract entails the turnkey supply of three 132/11 kV transformer substations and two 132/22 kV substations to the project. Under the agreement, Siemens and its partner Electromechanical will supply transformer substations and switchgear for the project. A total of 356 gas-insulated switchgear bays consisting of 46 for the 132-kV voltage level, 124 for 22 kV and 186 for 11 kV are to be supplied from SiemensÂ' plants in Berlin and Frankfurt. These substations, which will supplying power to the CO2-free Masdar City and Abu DhabiÂ's new airport, are slated to be completed by 2013. The project aims to develop UAE's power distribution network in order to keep pace with the rising demand for energy. Analysts expect that electricity demand in the country to continue to grow by 10 percent each year.
