Jordan inks nuclear cooperation deal with Japan

(MENAFN) AP reported that Jordan and Japan have agreed on the terms of a nuclear cooperation deal, potentially boosting the hand of a French-Japanese consortium slated to bid to build the Arab nation's first nuclear plant. Jordan, with U.S. backing, wants to build a nuclear plant by 2019 to tackle its growing energy needs and reduce spending on energy that consumes roughly 20 percent of its budget yearly. The kingdom recently shortlisted a French-Japanese consortium, as well a Canadian and a Russian company, for the plant. Bids will be invited within a year.
