    Japan to build solar power plant in Tunisia

    (MENAFN) Tunisia and Japan have signed an agreement to carry out a 5 megawatt-pilot solar power station at El Borma, south of Tunisia, a joint communiqu said. The project will be carried out with a Japanese donation and Japanese technology of power production from solar energy, according to Tunis Afrique Presse news agency. The joint communiqu was signed by minister of development and international cooperation Mohamed Nouri Jouini and Japanese deputy minister of economy, trade and industry Todahiro Matsushita. The minister noted that the two governments had carried out programmes of cooperation in various fields since 1977, adding that the new cooperation projects concern high added value sectors such as notably the use of renewable energies including solar energy. For his part, the Japanese deputy minister said that the memorandum of understanding relating to this project will be signed next December on the occasion of the holding in Tunisia of the 2nd Arab Japanese economic forum.
