Saudi, Indian firms win Oman energy contracts

(MENAFN) Oman has awarded Saudi National Contracting Co and India's Larsen & Toubro two separate contracts worth $83.4 million to build power transmission units, according to a government statement. Saudi National Contracting won a contract for installing interconnecting transmission units for $56 million, while Larsen & Toubro will build a power grid station for $27.3 million, a statement from state-run Oman Electricity Transmission Company (OETC), said. Both contracts pave the way for the construction of the first phase of the 2,000 megawatt power plant planned to be built in the eastern resort of Sur. Oman is expected to invite tender for the Sur plant, expected to be the biggest, early next year. Sur is home to two LNG plants with a combined production of nearly 10 million tons per year.
