    Saudi power generation capacity rises 31.4%

    (MENAFN) Saudi Arabia's electricity power generation capacity rose by 31.4 percent in 2009 compared to the previous year, bringing the country's total capacity to 44,485MW, the Saudi Press Agency reported. The actual power generating capacity reached 38,680MW in 2009, registering an increase of 10.6 percent compared to the previous year, the report said, adding Saudi Electricity Company sold 274,391 gigawatts/hour in 2009 with an increase of 6.8 percent. The company has invested $38 billion on electricity projects since its formation on April 5, 2000 until the end of 2008 for generation, transmission and distribution. The number of electricity subscribers in the Kingdom reached 5.7 million by the end of 2009, up 5.2 percent from 2008, SEC said.
