Ernst & Young: Telcos face difficulties in wooing customers

(MENAFN) A survey by Ernst & Young revealed that telecom operators are attempting to persuade customers that they are trustworthy providers of information and communication technology services, Khaleej Times reported. More than half of the survey's respondents believe that the telcos should stick to their business, rather than being all things to all people. On the other hand, half of the survey's respondents said that they would not consider using their telecoms service provider for data backup and retrieval. The survey also showed several business customers evaluate services such as network installation and security, as well as conferencing and Web-hosting, as highly valuable services. Mena Telecom Leader at Ernst & Young, Wasim Khan added that there is no connection between offering a reliable core service and the propensity of enterprises to take on extra services from their telecoms service supplier. It is worth mentioning that over one third of businesses worldwide are now buying web hosting (41 percent), network security (40 percent), conferencing (39 percent) and network installation and maintenance services (36 percent) from their telecoms provider.
