    Muscat airport completion expected in 2014

    (MENAFN) A senior official at the Civil Aviation Affairs Department of the Omani Ministry of Transport and Communication said that the Muscat International Airport expansion, which is designed to handle 12 million passengers every year, will be completed by 2014, Times of Oman reported. At a later stage, the airport is designed to scale up the terminal passenger handling capacity to 24 million. The second phase development is for enhancing the terminal capacity to 24 million passengers will largely depend on the traffic flow. The Muscat International Airport, which is designed to accommodate large Airbus 380 planes, will have 29 aircraft contact stands and 10 to 30 distant parking stands, depending on phasing options. Once operational, the airport will also have 60 departure check-in counters for economy class and another 24 counters for passengers of other class, which is in addition to several kiosks for easy check-in. There will be 24 counters, including 4 e-counters, for transit passengers and an airside transit hotel with 90 rooms.
