    Emirates airline achieves $925m profit in 6 months

    (MENAFN) Sheik Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Emirates airlines, announced that the carrier earned $925 million in profits in the six months ended September 30th, 2010, compared to $205 million during the same period in 2009, AP reported. The airline carried 15.5 million passengers by the end of September, filling more seats with an average occupancy of 81.2 percent. Emirates continued to purchase new planes into its fleet, which included five double-decker Airbus A380s and one Boeing 777 during the six-month period, helping to increase capacity by 13.9 percent. Moreover, 62 additional aircrafts are to be purchased. Cargo operations also increased by 23.7 percent during the April�September period, reaching 897,000 metric tons (989,000 tons), said Al Maktoum.
