    Abu Dhabi expects 1.9m visitors in 2011

    (MENAFN) Director General of Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA), Mubarak Al Muhairi, announced that the emirate aims to host 1.9 million hotel guests in 2011, which represents a 15 percent jump compared to the corresponding period a year earlier, Gulf News reported. The guests are expected to occupy about 22,000 hotel rooms in 2011, which is an increase of over 5,000 hotels rooms compared to the current year. As for the emirate's non-oil gross domestic product (GDP), tourism's contribution is forecasted to increase by 0.4 percent, reaching 11.1 percent, explained Al Muhairi. A partnership with MSC Cruises will see the Italian cruise operator run 19 Arabian Gulf itineraries from Abu Dhabi, bringing the emirate the potential of an additional 40,000 passenger arrivals for the 2011-2012 season.
