    Jordan sets $8.5b development program

    (MENAFN) Jordan's Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation issued a statement revealing that the Jordanian government plans to spend $8.5 billion on its Executive Development Program (EDP) for 2011-2013, Jordan Times reported. The program will focus primarily on improving the public transportation sector and enhancing support for education, health and social development projects, in addition to combating poverty and boosting the Kingdom's mega-projects, the statement said. According to the program, an estimated 55 percent of spending will be allocated to infrastructure, water, housing and transportation projects, 20 percent to social welfare, 14 percent to education and higher education, 6 percent to improving the business environment, 3 percent to enhancing technical and vocational training, 2 percent to financial and administrative reforms and 1 percent to legislation The program's $8.5 billion will be distributed among 24 sectors, including ministries, independent and self-financing government institutions, foreign grants and expenses to the state budget, announced the Ministry.
