    ASCAD sets strategy for Arab agro integration

    (MENAFN) Director General of the Arab League's Center for the Studies of Arid Zones and Dry Lands (ACSAD) Rafiq Saleh noted that the centre's new strategy is aimed at attaining the agricultural integration of Arab lands. This includes encouraging investment, establishing joint agricultural projects aimed at closing the gap of food and water shortage and decreasing the acquisition of imports, he added. Damascus-based ACSAD, established in 1971, aims to carry out research and applicational studies into the fields of drought-resistant plant and animal species, complete administration of water sources, maintaining the environment, biological diversity, fighting desertification and improving the know-how and expertise of manpower working in drought-affected areas, Saleh noted. ACSAD employs a wide range and skilled team of Arab experts and reseachers, working in the fields of embryo transfer, artificial insemination, soil analysis and other forms of in-depth study related to agricultural development.
