    Saudi Arabia allocates $5.87b for holy site developments

    (MENAFN) Saudi Arabia's Interior Minister, Prince Nayef bin Abdul Aziz, announced in a statement that the Kingdom has decided to move forward with a development project of its holy sites, estimated at $5.87 billion, Gulf News reported. According to Prince Nayef, the project aims to provide better amenities to pilgrims in the holy city of Makkah such as easier transportation through various means, especially trains, in addition to improvements and expansions in the holy sanctuary and around it. It is worth mentioning that during this year, revenues of pilgrim transportation companies totaled $173 million during the Hajj season, transporting nearly 1.65 million pilgrims during the first phase of the season, said Mohammad Jawherji, Chairman of the General Syndicate of Cars which is a union of pilgrim transportation companies.
