Dubai to hike utility tariffs in January

(MENAFN) Dubai's Supreme Council of Energy said that it has approved a limited revision of electricity and water consumption tariff as of the beginning of next month, Khaleej Times reported. From 2011, the fluctuations in fuel prices in the global market will reflect in Dubai's utility bills with the government deciding to impose a surcharge or a reduction corresponding to the cost of imported fuel its utility company pays up. The Secretary-General and Chief Executive Officer of the Council, Nejib Zaafrani announced that the new tariff and fuel surcharge will take effect from January 1, 2011. As per the revised tariff, which comes almost three years after the last revision, consumers will see an increase of 14.2 percent to 16.6 percent per kilowatt hour (kWh) depending on their electricity consumption slab.
