Oman, Saudi Arabia launch 1st border point in 2012

(MENAFN) The Saudi Transport Minister Jabara Al-Seraisry, said that the first land border point with Oman would be launched in 2012 as a 750 km road would be created through the Empty Quarter, reported Arab News. The minister said the new border point would enhance tourism and economic cooperation between Oman and Saudi Arabia. Work on the road project began in 2007. The road was diverted from the Khorais-Bathaa Road. Currently Oman only has border points with the UAE and, through the UAE, travelers by road pass from Saudi Arabia to Oman. Name of the new point would be the Rub Al-Khali Entry Point on the Saudi side and Ramlat Khaliya Entry Point on the Omani side. The Saudi minister confirmed that, on both sides, measures were made to facilitate the point such as paving roads and building other installations.
