Dubai reprieves workers of 6 month visa ban

(MENAFN) Humaid Bin Deemas, Acting Director-General at the Ministry of Labour in Dubai, said that expatriate workers will be issued new work permits starting early next year even if they have not yet worked for six months as per a previous ban, reported the Gulf News. Deemas said that new work permits would be issued starting from the first day of January 2011 if workers have completed two years with their former employers. He also said that sponsors are unable to make employees work for them if the workers do not want to. However, if the worker quits before the completion of two years they will not be issued new labor cards until the two-year period has passed. This applies even if the worker comes back to the UAE on a visit visa; they will not get a work permit before the expiry of the two-year period.
