    Foreign investments grow in Syria

    (MENAFN) Ahmad Abdel Aziz, Director-General of the Syrian Investment Authority said that the country attracted foreign investments worth $287 million in 2010, reported KUNA. Abdel Aziz said that external investments this year reched the number of 41. Turkey ranked the first with nine investments. Other countries that launched ventures in Syria included Lebanon, UAE, Britain, Iraq, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan and Palestine. The minister said that 385 was the total number of investment ventures in Syria. These ventures were worth more than $1772.2 million. Investments were mainly in industries where 201 projects were launched. Other projects included 127 projects in transportation and 42 in agriculture. This shows an increase compared to last year where 261 projects were launched.
