Abu Dhabi airport sees 12.2% rise in passenger traffic

(MENAFN) James Bennett, Chief Executive of Abu Dhabi Airports Co. (ADAC) revealed in a statement that during 2010, Abu Dhabi International Airport's traffic accelerated 12.2 percent, to nearly 11 million passengers, as a result of new airlines starting operations and existing ones expanding to new destinations, Reuters reported. According to Bennett, during 2010, the airport added five new international airlines, six new destinations and serviced an average of 41 additional frequencies from its existing airlines, amounting to a 13 percent increase in the total weekly outbound flights compared with the previous year. ADAC data showed that London, Bangkok, Doha, Manila and Cairo continue to be the top five routes, collectively claiming 20 percent of the total passenger traffic during 2010. Furthermore, the airport handled 438,000 tons of cargo during the mentioned period, up 16 percent, year on year, said Bennett.
