Qatar's inflation rate rises in December

(MENAFN) Qatar's Statistics Authority revealed that during December, the country returned to annual inflation again, with living costs up 0.4 percent, Reuters reported. According to official data, consumer prices rose 0.2 percent month-on-month, slightly less than in November, helped by higher transport costs. During 2010, average deflation reached 2.4 percent, lower than in 2009 figures. Qatar consumer prices fell by 4.9 percent in 2009, first full-year deflation since 1993, after climbing to a record high of 15.2 percent in 2008, the data showed. Qatar central bank governor Sheikh Abdullah bin Saud Al-Thani reiterated in February that he expected inflation to be in single digits in 2010.
