France grants new flights to Emirates, Etihad

(MENAFN) A French Transport Ministry spokeswoman said that the French government had granted the Emirati airline, the Emirates, and the Qatari carrier, Etihad Airways, approval on twenty two additional weekly flights to France under collaboration negotiations between governments in the three countries, reported Gulf News. The spokeswoman added that under this agreement, each of the Gulf carriers would be granted a package of four new flights to Paris, and seven to other destinations in France, on a weekly basis. It is worth noting that the biggest carrier in Europe traffic-wise, Air France-KLM Group, had previously pressured the country's government to refrain from granting new flying rights to Emirates and Etihad as they would be given extra advantages due to lower taxes and airports fees at their hubs. Lufthansa, the German carrier, had also previously objected to Gulf airlines gaining new access point in Germany, claiming as well that Gulf carriers have advantages that make competition unfair.
