Twitter to enhance presence in Arab world

The CEO of Twitter, Dick Costolo, said that the company is seeking to enhance its presence in the Arab world therefore it is discussing business with regional telecommunications operators, reported The National. Costolo said that the company has a new translation service which would enable users to translate the website into different languages including Arabic. Speaking about the blocking of Twitter during recent protests in Egypt, the CEO said that the company is trying to find ways to provide access to the website during times in which the internet goes down. Costolo said that Google launched a new service called "Speak2Tweet", which lets users place voice messages that would be later translated and manually relayed into a tweet. The CEO said that Twitter does not provide right-to-left languages, however, the company is working on the issue and is planning to provide Arabic support later this year.
