France, Saudi to sign nuclear energy deal

(MENAFN) The French Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Bertrand Besancenot, said that France and Saudi Arabia are going to ink a partnership deal for the purpose of developing nuclear energy use for peaceful purposes, reported Arab News. Besancenot said that France has the world's best technology in the field of nuclear power. Eighty percent of its electricity is generated by nuclear power plants. The ambassador said that the deal would involve using nuclear energy in producing electricity, desalinating water, qualifying human resources in the peaceful use of atomic energy and the promotion of nuclear energy applications in the sectors of agriculture, biology, archaeology, medicine and industry. It is worth noting that France is also trying to win the USD8 billion Haramain train contract between Makkah and Madinah, which would include training Saudi technicians to operate the trains.
