    Dubai destroys 453,000 phony products

(MENAFN) The Director General of the Department of Economic Development (DED) of Dubai, Sami Dhaen Al Qamzi, said that around 453,000 phony products, impounded in 2010, were destroyed by the department, reported Gulf News. Al Qamzi said that the fake goods included copies of handbags, suitcases, sunglasses, iPods, cell phones, DVDs, print cartridges and clothes of about 18 famous brands. The counterfeit products were confiscated during field visits and random inspection campaigns to areas filled with tourists such as the Karama Souq and the Gold Souq. The total number of violations in 2010 amounted to 1,357, the director general said. It is worth noting that the phony products destroyed included some odd items such as swords, neon light bulbs, laptop chargers, packs of saffron and sports gloves.
