UAE forces free ADNOC's hijacked vessel

(MENAFN) An official at the armed forces in the UAE said that the country's special forces were able to free a bulk carrier, owned by the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), which was hijacked earlier this month, reported WAM. The ship in subject, MV Arrilah-1, was sailing from Australia back to the UAE when pirates from the east of the Omani coast attacked it. The armed forces official said that the UAE's Anti-Terrorist unit, the Air Forces and Air Defense units and in coordination with the US 5th fleet boarded the vessel which led to the pirates surrendering afterwards. It is worth noting that in a previous incident in late March, a UAE-flagged and Kuwaiti-owned oil tanker was hijacked by pirates and was last known to be taken to the Somali coast.
