    Dubai's airport traffic up 5.8%

(MENAFN) Dubai International Airport's Chief Executive, Paul Griffiths, said that last month the number of passengers passed through the airport increased by 5.8 percent reaching 4.2 million passengers compared to 3.97 million in 2010, reported Arab News. Griffiths added that the world's fourth busiest airport for international passenger traffic witnessed a decrease in traffic on Middle Eastern and African destinations due to the political upheaval in the region, adding that the number decreased to 23,240 passengers on Middle Eastern routes, and 24,402 passengers on African routes. He also said that in 2011, the airport's management would expect an increase in passenger traffic, where it would surpass fifty million passengers. It is worth noting that Dubai's second airport, Al Maktoum airport, would be opened at this year's last quarter. With a cost of USD34 billion, it would be the world's largest airport when fully operated with a passenger capacity of up to 160 million people.
