Dubai's RTA not to add new Salik gates

(MENAFN) Dubai's Road and Transport Authority's (RTA) CEO for strategy and corporate governance, Abdul Younes, said that the RTA would not add new toll gates (Salik) to Dubai's streets, nor would it raise the current cost per gate, reported Arabian Business. The statement comes as some reports showed plans for an additional two gate aiming at an increase in transport revenues. Salik gates were first introduced in Dubai back in 2007, aiming at reducing traffic congestion in the busy city. Currently, Salik is a leading source of income for the RTA as it secured USD217 million for the authority through charging less than a dollar every time a vehichle passes a gate.
