    DED receives 2,235 consumer complaints

    (MENAFN) Dubai's Department of Economy's (DED) commercial control and consumer protection division's director, Omar Bu Shehab, said that the number of complaints the division received from consumers against dealers this year rose 600 percent compared with 2010 reaching 2,235, reported Emirates 24/7. Bu Shehab added that the majority of the complaints received were about the dealer's failure to meet the terms of the sold product's warranty or purchase contracts, the number of these complaints reached 1,797. He also said that there were ten cases about fraud in purchased jewelry, 131 about malfunction in bought products and 31 involving refusal by traders to fix items and others. It is worth noting that in the first quarter of this year, the department received 1,453 complaints, whereas the number of complaints it received in 2010 stood at 255.
