Human Rights asks for reconsidering Bahrain for F1

(MENAFN) Human Rights Watch submitted a request to the management of the Formula One motor racing asking that the recent violations to human rights in Bahrain to be taken into consideration when deciding for the Grand Prix to take place or not in the Gulf country, reported Reuters. The decision would be taken in a matter of days, after the strong protests took over the country back in March, pushing a delay to the scheduling of the Grand Prix. The Sunni Muslim-run government broke up the protest movement in March, declared martial law and launched a crackdown on opposition groups dominated by Shi'ite Muslims, who form a majority in Bahrain, accusing them of links to Shi'ite Iran. Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates sent troops to help Bahrain restore order.
