Libyan rebels to postpone oil production until fields safe

(MENAFN) The Libyan rebels' finance minister, Ali Tarhouni, said that until it would be safe to send workers to the oil fields located in the eastern half of the country which is under opposition control, oil production in these fields would not continue, reported Associated Press. Tarhouni added that the minute he would feel the locations where the oil fields would be safe and a minimum security would be guaranteed for those who would go to work there, he would allow parties to operate there. He also said that rebels worked and would work on a daily basis to make sure that sites would be protected, adding that it would take some time for the oil fields to resume their output. It is worth noting that Libya's oil output reached 1.6 million barrels per day before the revolution against Moammar Gadafhi and his regime, around two percent of world production.
