    UAE retailers' credit card surcharges prohibited

    (MENAFN) UAE Economy Minister and Supreme Committee for Consumer Protection chairman, Saeed Al Mansoori, stated that the committee passed a resolution which prohibited retailers from charging extra fees from customers using credit cards, reported Arab News. The chairman also said that a number of retailers charged credit card users an extra commission of USD0.54 to USD1.08 for various reasons which they told to customers. Al Mansoori added that the Committee also highlighted the need for immediate action to provide consumers in the UAE with their rights as well as grant them boosts. It is worth noting that the Supreme Committee for Consumer Protection agreed on liberalizing the trading of 15 new products including washing powders, detergents, drinking water, fats, oils, dairy products and juices.
