GCC to cut roaming charges by 30%

(MENAFN) UAE's Telecommunications Regulatory Authority's Director General, Mohammed Ghanem, said that starting next month, mobile roaming charges across the GCC would be reduced 30 percent, reported Emirates 24/7. Ghanem added that in September 2010, the GCC telecom service providers also reached a similar decision to cut mobile roaming charges, adding that the charges would not be permitted to surpass 15 percent of the charge of an international call. He also said that the telecommunication regulators in the GCC also discussed the transition across the GCC from Analog Radio Broadcast to Digital Broadcast since it would have more benefits in addition to its social and economic impacts. It is worth noting that the regulators discussed the GCC preparation for the next World Mail Summit which will be held in Qatar, in addition to the ways to regulate the work and activities of private companies working in the fields of mail, cargo and courier.
