DEWA to double size Dubai's coal power plant

(MENAFN) Dubai Electricity and Water Authority's (DEWA) CEO, Saeed Mohammed Al-Tayer, said that over the next few years, Dubai wouldn't have to be worry of any power shortages in the summer since DEWA would increase the size of the planned coal fired power plant almost the double, reported Arab News. Al-Tayer added that in order to lessen Dubai's reliance on the supply of imported gas, DEWA planned to establish a 1,500 megawatt coal fired power plant, nevertheless, the company changed its plans and would double the size of the coal plant. He also said that for the coming five years, Dubai would have enough power and enough desalinated water, moreover, by the end of this year, the emirate would have around 10,000 MW of power production capacity. It is worth noting that in the summer of 2010, demand for electricity in Dubai grew at 6,161 MW up from 5,622 MW in the previous year.
