SAR to construct Saudi Dammam-Jubail railway

(MENAFN) Saudi Railway Company's (SAR) chief executive, Rumaih Al Rumaih, said that the company would connect Saudi's industrial city of Jubail and Dammam port to a network that connected to mining centers, reported Gulf Daily News. Al Rumaih added that the project would take several months, whereas at the end of 2011 or early 2012, construction would be expected to begin. Moreover, the purpose of the 125 km Dammam-Jubail railway would be to give access to plants in Jubail to utilize the railway network in order to transfer their products. He also said that the company started preparing the design and the tendering documents for it would tender the project soon. It is worth noting that SAR is operating the 2,400km North-South railway, Saudi's longest railway project, which is financed by the state-run Public Investment Fund.
