Etihad considers joining global air alliance

(MENAFN) Etihad Airways' chief executive, James Hogan, said that the carrier was thinking of joining a global airline alliance, a move that would distinguish the carrier from other airlines in the Middle East, reported The National. Hogan added that Etihad considered partnering with Star Alliance, Oneworld or SkyTeam, nevertheless, the management didn't decide yet which alliance would be the best for the carrier. He also said that one of the biggest questions for Etihad would be whether the airline would keep honoring its existing bilateral relationships with 31 other carriers, including its strategic alliance with Virgin Australia. It is worth noting that for passengers, alliances offer simpler ticketing processes and smoother connections on intercontinental trips, in addition to the chance to get and redeem frequent-flier miles on other member carriers.
