Dubai Airports allots USD7.8b to expansion

(MENAFN) Dubai Airports announced a plan yesterday to spend USD7.8 billion to increase Dubai International Airports Capacity from 60 million to 90 million in the next 7 years, The National reported. The growth plan for Dubai International, which includes fourth concourse and an expansion of Terminal 2, aims to make Dubai International the busiest in the world by 2015, Paul Griffiths, the chief executive of Dubai Airports, said. Griffiths expects increased traffic to lead to additional income from retail, duty free, and food in the airports. By 2020, 83 percent of Dubai Airports revenue would come from commercial sources, as airport fees would not be increased in real terms, Griffiths said. The profits from increased traffic at Dubai International would be funneled to construction of Dubai World Central Airport, which is planned to be able to handle 160 million passengers, Griffiths said. Dubai Airports would begin to focus on the new airport upon the completion of Dubai International in 2020.
