Arab H1 ad spend hit by ME political unrest

(MENAFN) The Pan Arab Research Centre (PARC) said that due to the region's political unrest, spending on advertising in the Arab World in 2011's first half reached USD5.2 compared with USD5.08 in 2010, reported Gulf News. The centre added that advertisers in the region were restrained by the Arab Spring, struggling regional economies and tight advertiser budgets; nevertheless, ad spending in Saudi Arabia and the UAE to some extent compensated that in other Arab countries. It also said that in the period, the total spending on ads in Saudi reached USD643 million with an 8 percent increase from last year's same period, while in UAE it went up from USD688 million a year ago to USD696 million. It is worth noting that in the period, sectors that spent the most on advertising were telecom operators, consumer goods brands and government agencies, nevertheless, government agencies' spending declined 12 percent from 2010.
