UAE inflation down 1.7% in July

(MENAFN) The National Bureau of Statistics said that the consumer prices in the UAE fell 1.3 percent in July from 1.7 percent in June, driven by a drop in housing costs that helped to offset the impact of US dollar weakness on the economy, reported The National. The Bureau also said that accommodation costs, water and electricity bills were dropped 1.6 percent in July compared with June, which is considered to be the biggest monthly drop since December 2009. all these helped to maintain the overall inflation rate down. The National Bureau of Statistics added that weakness within the housing market have pushed prices down by more than half from their peaks before the global downturn. It is worth mentioning that food and beverages, the second-biggest component of the index, prices rose during July to 1.6 percent compared with the previous month.
