    Dubai's SCE to launch gas strategy in 2012

    (MENAFN) Dubai's Supreme Council of Energy's (SCE) vice chairman, Saeed Mohammed al-Tayer, said that Dubai plans to launch a gas strategy next year aims at reducing rising energy demand in the emirate and would tender to appoint a specialist consultant for the plan by year-end, reported Reuters. The vice chairman also said that Emirate's Integrated Gas Strategy 2030 would start in the second quarter of the coming year, which includes deals with pipelines of liquefied and natural gas combined with underground storage. Al-Tayer added that the plan comes as a part of Dubai's Integrated Energy Strategy 2030 which aims to reduce energy demand and carbon dioxide emissions up to 30 percent by the year 2030. Al-Tayer said that The Supreme Council of Energy is responsible for ensuring energy supplies in the emirate where increasing demand for cooling and desalinated water are major drivers for rapidly rising electricity use.
