    UAE's Jan-Aug consumer prices grow 2.4%

    (MENAFN) Abu Dhabi Statistics Centre said that in the year's first eight months, consumer prices in the UAE grew 2.4 percent compared with the same period a year earlier, reported Emirates 24/7. The centre added that average consumer prices went up by 0.1 percent from July to August, whereas they rose by 1.6 percent from August of last year to August 2011, moreover, the increase in the Jan-Aug period led to a rise of 4.4 percent in consumer prices for households of the bottom welfare quintile over the same period in 2010. It also said that the food and non-alcoholic beverages group represented 57.6 percent of the rise in the consumer price index (CPI), while housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels' group accounted for 35.7 percent of the increase in the CPI with the prices in this group growing by 2.2 percent. It is worth noting that the transport group grew by 7.8 percent, whereas the communications group rose by 5.7 percent.
