    Abu Dhabi's Adwea to build 1,500mw power plant

    (MENAFN) The Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority's (Adwea) director general, Abdullah Saif Al Nuaimi, said that the authority would construct a 1,500 megawatt power plant with a capacity to produce 100 million gallons of water, reported Gulf News. Al Nuaimi added that Abu Dhabi's annual power demand grew at 12 percent, and water use was forecasted to increase at 5 percent per year, on the other hand, annual power demand in the UAE as a whole rose 10 percent. He also said that the country started to establish nuclear plants to generate power, where the first of the four plants would start operations in 2017, moreover, both Sumitomo Corp. and Korea Electric Power Corp. started establishing the USD1.5 billion Shuweihat 3 power plant, which was designed to produce 1,600 megawatts when fully operational in 2014. It is worth noting that power plants under construction in the UAE will add more than 2,500 megawatts of power and 100 million gallons of water-treatment capacity.
