    Qatar Airways, Airbus ink USD6.5b deal

    (MENAFN) Qatar Airways' CEO, Akbar Al Baker, said that the carrier signed a USD6.5 billion deal with Airbus for 50 A32neo (new engine option) aircrafts, reported Gulf News. Al-Baker added that the deal would include extra 30 on option, in addition to 5 additional A380 super-jumbos and 3 options for a total of 88 narrow- and wide-bodied aircraft. He also said that by the year 2016, Qatar Airways, which flies to 108 destinations, would have a fleet of 170 planes, compared with the current 103 aircrafts. It is worth noting that Qatar Airways inked USD560 million agreement with Boeing for 2 Boeing 777-200 LR (long-range) freighters.
