(MENAFN) Iraq rejected Jordan's request to allow passage of Jordanian trucks heading for Turkey through its territories, Jordan Times reported. Salam Quraishi, an economic adviser to the Iraqi government, expressed concerns about such move would have negative consequences on the Syrian people. The Iraqi official said that his government does not want to take part in any projects that would affect the Syrian economy during this critical stage of Syria's history Earlier this month, Jordan asked Iraqi government to allow using its territories as an alternative transit for Jordanian cargo trucks heading to Turkey to avoid the turbulence witnessed in Syria. Previously, Mohammad Dawood, president of the Jordan Truck Owners Association, told Jordan Times that Syrian authorities are not banning the entry of Jordanian cargo trucks through their land, but owners and drivers are reluctant to enter the violence-hit country. Between 200-300 cargo trucks used to cross the border with Syria daily before the current unrest, said Dawood.
